Elements Of Quality Culture Management Essay Indeed, quality culture starts with top management. There need to be top management leadership to drive this culture of quality across the organisation. For this to happen, business leaders and managers must have the commitment in setting up quality control programmes, strategic planning for quality and provide resources for quality. In addition, top management leadership role is also a distinguishing element of a quality culture. Adopting a democratic leadership style where workers are not punished for errors and failures and that continuous learning is what prevails in the organisation. Management attitudes should be towards treating employees as members and remove barriers of superiors or subordinates. This suggests to everyone that the work of all members of the company is important and adds value to the final outputs. Members of the organisation should focus on the purpose for which they are all here: To get better and better at creating that mutually beneficial relationship bet ween them and their customers. Therefore, the authority of the top management is to support the mutual interests of its team openly and conscientiously. Employee focus Understanding employee Employee, being the most prominent factor of production, needs to be given consistent attention by management. Involvement and participation of the employee Employee involvement programmes (EIPs) can take a variety of forms including: job participation, consisting of permanent programmes in which employees take a formal, direct role in decisions relating to quality issues; consultative participation with top management to improve their production lines, including long-term interventions like quality circles, employee suggestion schemes, brainstorming sessions, in which employees opinions are sought as managers engage in decision making regarding quality issues over the long term. On the other hand, employee participation will be at the board where discussions are held between managers and/or employees over issues that requires employees and/or management ideas and suggestions. Customer focus The impetus for quality improvement begins with the customer. Customers are drawn to products and services of a particular organisation because they feel their needs and expectations are met or exceeded by these products and services. The bottom line for the customer has always been whether he or she obtains the products and services desired. For this reason, a focus on customer needs and expectations is recognised as the key to quality improvement by Demming, Juran, Crosby, and other pioneers of TQM. Therefore, customer driven values would be firstly to adopt a user based quality approach whereby the quality is based on what the customer wants since he/she has always reason. Furthermore, there should be a change in management/employee attitudes as well; the door should always be left open for maintenance and advice. Continuous improvement and Innovation A quality culture requires organisations to embrace continuous improvement and kaizen throughout their processes. This approach assumes that employees are the best people to identify room for improvement, since they see the processes in action all the time. A firm that uses this approach therefore has to have a culture that encourages and rewards employees for their contribution to the process but to meet the highest standard possible at any time. In line with this continuous mechanism, management should allow room for innovation and creativity, work alongside the research and development, and invest massively in the development and new products based on customer requirements. Partnering with suppliers Suppliers are probably among the most important stakeholders for businesses in quest for a sustainable quality culture. This is because, the essence of quality starts with the inputs of production which normally constitute of a greater proportion of raw materials and components. The values that the organisation needs to holds vis-a-vis its suppliers are not as stakeholder but as partner for the longer term. Clear emphasis should be laid on the quality of raw materials. The organisation could make an agreement by having quality control officers at the warehouse of the supplier. In addition, quality is also about the delivery of inputs which requires the principle of just-in-time where raw materials and components arrives at the factory as and when needed therefore reducing the cost of storage but also keep the materials at the standard required for production. Performance measures Quality standards are imperatives if quality is to be consistent in an organisation. However, using quality standards as performance measures will give employees room for continuous improvement in their skills and competencies. The culture that needs to prevail in the organisation is that performance of employees needs to be assessed with regards to quality standards and not based on the quantities of output produced. Communication In order to have a dominant quality culture prevailing in the organisation, open, honest communication is vital. Dishonest communication is the kind of communication that leads to misunderstandings which frequently create problems on the job. In an environment where open communication is a stated value, such dishonesty in how people interact with each other makes little sense and therefore quality is reached in terms of conversations, discussion and sharing of ideas. Another essential element of a quality culture is empathy which is to do with proactively seeing the world from the perspective of others-other members of the company, customers, suppliers, the community. It is having a sense and appreciation of their problems, their abilities, and their behaviours. Finally, in connection with empathy, members of the organisation need to have active listening skills by suspending judgements. Team building Individual success depends on how everyone in the company works together, and the companys success depends on all individuals doing their work well. This crucial element of quality culture encourages the development of teams and teamwork when collaboration is appropriate to execute work. In organisations with this value, people examine the tasks that need to be done. They then look at the interdependencies among people involved and organised teams around these tasks. The commitment and inclination to teamwork in a culture with this value will indeed be naturally extended to suppliers and customers. Ultimately, the teambuilding exercise will help remove barriers and class differences among people and work towards implementing total quality across the organisation.

Negative Commercial Influences on Scientific Research Essay

Nowadays, it’s a trend that almost everything is related to the commerce, and so do the scientific research, because the society would like to value the research results. To some extend, scientific research is not only a pure research in the labs or universities, but also a business sometimes. As a result, the commercial influences on the scientific research are so obvious that change the ways that researchers do or the universities behave. Among these effects, negative commercial influences have become more and more clearly. On the one hand, because of the profits, some researchers begin to focus more on the researching speed rather than the quality. In order to succeed quickly, some researchers hope to get a good experiment results as soon as possible. In this case, they may fail easily or receive worse consequences. On the other hand, it has led to some wrong purposes to sell out science to commerce. A new report from the organization Scientists for Global Responsibility looks at the bad impact on five commercial areas which includes pharmaceuticals, tobacco, oil and gas, defence and biotech. [1] From the perspective of the defence, in the theory, it’s normal and reasonable for a country to develop the scientific researches on the countries’ defense. But in fact, with the overwhelming attentions on new military technology and the huge financial support, the research has changed the original pure goals into developing military hardware, even resulting in the competitions among different countries. When it comes to biotech, before the emergence of biotech, business and science operated in largely separate spheres.[2] Whereas, there is also a marriage between the commercial support and scientific researches at present. And sometimes, this kind of â€Å"marriage† may cause big faults that can do harm to human being’s health because of some misleading messages in the biotech area. Admittedly, the cooperation between the commerce and the scientific research has bring some positive effects. First of all, with more financial investments, researchers can have enough money to purchase some advanced equipments so that they can do the experiments they’re willing to trying. Second, the cooperation can help scientists put their researching results in the labs into the real world. If the invents display on the table in the  labs or museum, they’re just the dead thing. But if the invents can be used in the daily life or put into the customers’ market, they may bring something new to make the lives more convenient. Critical Comparison of Two Frost Poems Essay

Frost attempts to bring to the reader his character ‘s experiences with the world. The thoughts of the character are limited to his immediate surroundings but through the poet ‘s careful pick out of words they echo to the reader ‘s own understanding, of the general concept of life and his world and his place. I will examine, two of Frost ‘s poems: The Road Not Taken, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. I will, compare both poems by the effect of its words, sounds, and images and how this is significant and which effect does it have. The character in Frost ‘s poem The Road Not Taken has an immediate and acute interaction with his world as early as the first stanza. It manifests itself in the form of a crossroads , which for some time leaves the character agonizing for a choice . This contact is important : its existence signifies that life is not linear , and has not delineated a given path for an individual to take . They diverge into many , many roads , each with its own consequence and destination. The subsequent decision and step of Frost ‘s traveller opened up a multitude of implications of his interactions with the world . The traveller must have carefully studied and pondered over the better path or one that has more promise . His decision , in the end , was arbitrary Frost ‘s of the path ‘s grassy and wanted wear , on which stood the basis of his choice , was easily refuted by the line that followed : Had worn them really about the same . The poet gives no indication of difference nor anything striking that might impel his character from going to one path in preference to the other . He is then faced with this realization : no two paths are so similar that they can be mechanically compared . It echoes in a deeper understanding that in life , sometimes decisions are made without solid basis or moral certitude , and their value are just about the same – based on how the individual acts in his decision. Taking another look at the character ‘s sudden leap , we can offer another quiet observation : while he inspected one road To where it bent in the undergrowth , he took the other , as just as fair . We have already discovered that they were substantially the same path , and of the same quality . If we take a short look at a later stanza , we would see that Frost ‘s character had meant to save that way for another time ( Oh , I kept the first for another day . This thought , and the subsequent decision , stemmed primarily from the seeming grassy and wanted wear claim of one path. One important gem of thought to be found here is that in life , there are no absolute , predictable moments . Man was moulded with freedom of thought , will and choice . He is a dynamic being , and subject to capricious whims and moments of spontaneity . It is this freedom , in fact , that keeps him from being ensnared in stasis , and indecision He may act without apparent logical basis , and he need not even do so We are given another gem, in this spontaneous act : the traveller ‘s wilful act was rooted in a desire to break from routine . It was as if some inner desire impelled him to shy away from the normalcy of everyday life . This , to him , was a proud moment ( I took the one less travelled by that has made all the difference . His realization of its value elucidates the fact that Man should not entrap himself in cycles and routines , for there was a world out there that wanted wear , and has yet to be discovered. This act becomes that milestone in a person ‘s life where he becomes aware of his world , and how this one small action has a hundredfold meaning . It is not , however , altogether complete – though he has made the profound discovery of the meaning of his one choice , and its inherent great value , he is also made painfully aware of his humanity His regrets throughout the poem ( sorry I could not travel both . I doubted if I should ever come back , as well as the wistfulness of the title itself ( The Road Not Taken ) are at the heart of every human desire . Men are inherently imperfect , and cannot absorb the infinitesimal of the universe , much less all of the world ‘s experiences It is a bittersweet afterthought that how way leads on to way ‘ there was no going back to the original route . One is reminded at this juncture of the wise counsel of Ignatius of Loyola , that once a choice has been made and made irreversibly , then one should not fret over its being unmade : We can change its effects , but the act of choosing is over and done with.
